Vadakkan

A supernatural horror rooted in North Malabar folklore. The only Malayalam film among seven gala screenings at the Fantastic Pavilion, Marché du Film, Cannes, 2024.

Vadakkan is a supernatural horror feature rooted in the mythology and ritual performance traditions of northern Kerala — specifically the theyyam tradition of North Malabar, in which a performer invokes a deity and becomes its medium, performed before village shrines and dated by some accounts to the Neolithic.

The film was conceived from the outset as a scalable genre IP rather than a single title, with the folklore of the region as the source world.

Following its Gala Premiere at the Fantastic Pavilion, Marché du Film — the only Malayalam film among seven gala screenings — the film has travelled a genre and international circuit across Italy, France, Turkey, Norway, the Netherlands, China, Canada and the United States, taking three festival wins: Fright Night Film Fest, the RED Movie Awards and Florence International.

Released theatrically in India on 7 March 2025 and in the UAE through VOX Cinemas from 14 March 2025. Now streaming on Prime Video, Aha and Apple TV.
