Monsoon

Four artists are given one brief — interpret the monsoon — and find their answer in a ritual dance older than record.

Part of 101 The Brief, a strand that hands a single brief to a group of artists and follows where they take it. The brief was to interpret India’s monsoon through film.

The answer was Theyyam — the ritual dance form of Kerala, in which a performer invokes a deity and becomes its medium, performed before village shrines and dated by some accounts to the Neolithic.

Directed with Academy Award-winning sound designer Resul Pookutty, CAS, MPSE (Academy Award®, BAFTA & National Award Winner), composer Reuel Benedict and cinematographer Hari K.
